THE FAMILY IN CRISIS.(Series 1)

The Oxford Advanced learners dictionary defined the family as a group consisting of one or two parents with their children. The family unit began with the creation of Adam and Eve and their children Cain and Abel and since then the devil has consistently attacked the family in diverse of ways and sadly the multiple negative effects now stares us on our faces as we now live in a world where anything and everything is permitted, a world where the abnormal have suddenly become normal all because the family which ought to be a moulding ground for good values and characters is under severe siege. There was a time when Nigerian parents abroad sent their children back to the country to be properly raised by their family members, even though they were in countries where they enjoyed the basic needs of life, they realised the need to raise their children in the African environment where so much emphasis are placed on values and morality but do we still have such practices today? How many abroad based parents are still willing to send back their children? By the way, is there any difference in what we have today in our society and the ones abroad? Are we not much more morally bankrupt? How did we get here? Growing up in the village, many children were brought back from the cities and townships by their parents to live with their relatives because they did not want them to lose their identities, I attended village schools with such children who also accompanied their guardians to farm and early in the morning we all trecked long distance to the stream to wash and bath, as a matter of fact, some of them became so perfect in traditional wrestling and drumming even before they returned back to the city and township to re-unite with their parents but permit me to ask, Are the villages of today in any way better than the cities and townships? Are we not experiencing much more moral decadent in our villages? Do we still have that old village practices where children were disciplined by other members of the society for wrong doings? Again I ask, How did we get here? To be continued..... Authored by: Pastor Emmanuel N Okafor. Telephone number: +2348060518919

THE CHURCH IS UNDER SIEGE (Part 9)

It's a shame that the church of God which ought to be a house of prayer and worship is now being turned into a social club where the rich and their likes openly flaunts their wealth but who do we blame? When special churches are established for the elites, when they are allowed to receive and make calls while the service is going on to the extent that all you hear them discuss after church services are things that ordinarily should be discussed in their homes or social gatherings and not in the church of God, just listen to some of the things they say " Who helped you fix your nails? Where did you buy your cream? Is this bag designer? I like your hair, where did you buy it? Did you hear Yul Edochie impregnated Judy Austin?" All of these mess takes place in the church because our greedy and materialistic clergies permits them or how do you expect them to rebuke the same people whose wealth are desperately needed in their churches? GODLY PARENTING (Part 6).

Many times, we are quick to lambast the badly behaved young people in our society without first asking the following important questions such as: (1). Who are their parents? (2). What was thier upbringing like? These questions and their possible answers will serve as a guide into the reasons why there are so much anti-social vices in our country. The greatest evil that any parent can commit against the society is to give birth to children who will end up as sources of sorrow, tears and blood to the society, a situation where some parents consumes hard drugs in whatever form before their wards is nothing but an outright encouragement to them that it's okay to do drugs. ....TO BE CONTINUED........
